Interesting...

I like this. It has an almost windy quality, which is pretty intriguing really.

I like how every individual instrument really lives and breathes and the rest of the ensemble. There is nothing that really sticks out at all, besides the percussion. You did a very good job of mixing and mingling all of these sound together into a single cohesive unit. Very good job indeed.

The percussion is a lot of fun, and really groovy in certain areas. You did a great job with the percussion in just about every angle. Because not only were the beats groovy, but the percs themselves were rich and punchy. And that is something that a lot of people miss when working with their percussion.

I like how it fades out at the end. It never really ends, but rather just fades into the distance and melts into the distant scenery. A very nice visual in the end, and I like it a lot.

This is very unique my friend, very unique indeed.

5/5 and 10/10 overall. Great work here.

woot review

many thanks, many thanks indeed

Oh Yea...

This is so cool bud. I love this one. It has you style written all over it, but it is unique from your other songs.

The chord structure is so different, and creates a very unique mood and atmosphere for this song. The picking style is pretty much the same, but this song has a life special unto itself.

As always though, I really think you need to find a congas sound font to import into Garage Band. And incorporate then into your songs. That is the one thing I think is missing really.

But this is beautiful in it's own right. I wouldn't change anything in the guitar.

5/5 and 10/10 overall.

This has been favorited.

Boux responds:

Yeah! i put some add9 chords in that one. Kind of found a temporary solution for the congas, as im tapping the guitar while playing.
I know youll keep bugging me about congas till the end of times but its fair enough:D
Thanks again!

Interesting...

Well couple things.

1. I hate trance.
2. I hate remixes.

X-D

That being said, I won't hold either against you. :-P

First off, the percussion. The percussion is pretty intense. Seems like you compressed everything really well. It all has a real punchy and tight sound, which is of the utmost importance for this music.

The rhythms themselves are pretty well done. Although pretty straightforward and typical, that is the way it normally is in this genre. So no reason to be critical of that, it is just the prevelant style for this genre.

I like the big bass hits at the transitions. But there is a problem. You obviously are using a limiter in this song, and it simply can not handle to hug bass hits. You need to tweak your limiter so everything else doesn't die out almost entirely when the bass hits pound out a new section.

The synths used are pretty appropriate. There really isn't anything out of place in this song, instrument-wise. And it all seems to mesh very well into one big cohesive unit.

As with 99% of trance, there really isn't a melody line. Nor are there any harmonies that I can distinguish in the least. Thus, once again proving, this is a programmer dominated genre. Hence, why I hate trance so much. :-P

So I can't give it a perfect score, because in my opinion composition is THE MOST IMPORTANT part of any song. And from a composer's angle, this song is pretty see-through. But that is the genre, so it is not meant as a slight towards you.

4/5 and 8/10 overall. Nice work here bud. I hope this review helped in some way.

unrealdark responds:

First of all, I am glad you didn't hold back. ^^

I am as well really proud of the percussion, I worked reall hard on it, just by mixing and compressing it good.

As for the leads and melody I indeed could use some variation to make it not that typical, and straight forward. I am still working to acomplish that.

Hehe, yeah those BIG booms! xD Well you're right I use a limiter, and well... tried everything, but can't handle it. :P I'll try to compensate it though, thanks. ;)

With you saying there is no melody line, nor there are harmonies, I sadly agree.
I deffinately need to work onto that. Composing is really important. I see why you hate trance. ;)

I admire you critism, and wil deffinatly try to improve onto it.
HUGE thanks here, I am glad you reviewed! ;D

Coolness...

The beginning is pretty awesome! I love the synth/piano you used there. It sounds like it is a synth, but still has an edge that has a piano feel to it. Very cool sound indeed.

I like the fade out and crescendo into the main section at 0:55. That was a great touch, and really had a cool way of introducing the song.

The mix of synths is pretty decent, but it seems a little to stereotypical in it's sound for me. I'm not much for the dance/trance genres, unless there is something that sounds very different from the norm. This is pretty much more of the same to my ears. But that being said, this should be a hit with all the dance and trance kiddies. :-)

I think the rhythms in the percussion are perfectly appropriate. They really help to push the song along at a tremendous clip, which is important for this style. It helps to really create that dance atmosphere, and I can see people getting on their feet for a sound such as this.

I think my only beef, is that I'm not hearing a ton of bass. And I have a pair of professional audio headphones, and the top of the line Altec Lansing speaker system. I can hear EVERYTHING to say the least. So yea, the absence of a bass is pretty important to me, because if you listen to my songs, me loves the bass. ;-)

But overall, this is just about right for the type of sound you are going for.

5/5 and 9/10 overall. Nice work here bud.

Dj-Brand0 responds:

Hey mate. Yeah the introduction is pretty nice! was interesting. Glad you liked it!

Yeah the fade out intro there was good, it was something I heard a while back and thought it would sound good here, and it looks like it worked out.

Heheh yep should hit all the dancey trancey kiddies :D

Maybe for the bass I should put another bass in the layer to crank it up a little bit, but any more I think it would sound bad on my speakers.

Nice system by the way XD

Thanks heaps mate,

Wow Bud...

This is amazingly epic, and purely cinematic. It has the strength of a grown man, yet the innocence of a child. The wisdom of an elder, yet the tenderness of a young mother. The pure emotion in this piece is simply stunning on all level possible.

I sit back, and I listen for the third time. There are children playing in a field, while their grandfather watches on from the home. The landscape is green with life, and vibrant colors fill the eyes.

The scent of flowers and pollen fills my nose and I take in this beautiful spring afternoon. The children play, oblivious to the constant turning of the earth. Time stands still for them, but grandfather knows better.

His time on this earth is limited. So it is with a sad heart that he takes in this beautiful day with his family, possibly soon to be his last. Sadness fills his heart, along with many other emotions.

He feels pride for his son. Grandfather taught him well, and made a good man out of him. The family is in safe hands for the future, and nothing could make the old man prouder.

Love, for everyone he has known in his life. Family, friends, lovers, even mere acquaintances met in passing. There are so many faces, yet so few names. So many reasons to sit back and realize how truly wonderful and fulfilling this life has been.

And of course the sadness. The longing to fix so many missed opportunities. Although his life has been rich in countless way, he can not sit and think that there were not things he wishes he could go back and change.

But all of these emotions are pushed aside as he refocuses on his grandchildren. The family dog has joined them in a jubilant game of fetch. It is their favorite game to play with their canine pal, and it never ceases to amaze grandfather how much they truly enjoy the sport.

All of a sudden clouds arise, a storm is approaching. No bother, grandfather calls the children and family pet inside where they all have a warm cup of tea and watch the rain. It has turned into a lazy afternoon for the family, as outdoor activities have been suspended. All the better for grandfather.

He decides to take this time to really show the children one last time how much they mean to him. He gives the grandchildren a gift each. For the boy, a lovely watch. It is round and gold plated. The boy holds it up and swings it back and forth by it's chain. He could not be happier. Grandfather embraces the child for a long moment.

Then he gives the granddaughter her gift. It is a silver bracelet, with her name inscribed on the back of it. It shines metalic in the light coming from the fireplace. It is the exact bracelet she saw in the store a week before, and begged mother to get for her.

Sadly, they did not have the money to spend. But grandfather always pulls through for his special little Abigail. With eyes as round as apples she springs onto grandfather and wraps her arms around him. A tear comes to his eyes as he hold her tight to his chest.

As the children are mesmerized by their gifts, grandfather stands and moves into the kitchen. Mother and father get up and quietly follow. It is at this tme that grandfather bares his soul.

Tears flow freely from his face as he recalls the many shortcomings in his life. From his failed first marriage, to the loss of his first daughter in a car accident. Personal sacrifices he has made through the years nobody even knew of roll from the tip of his tongue. He can't even control it now, completely consumed by the swirl of emotions consuming him.

And as abruptly as he began, grandfather is finished. He looks up at his daughter-in-law with love in his eyes. Then turns to his son and beams with pride, tears welling up in his eyes yet again. Despite all of his shortcomings and mistakes, he did well for those he loved in his life. And it is with this resolve, that he gathers himself and moves towards his bedroom.

He tells everyone goodnight, and kisses the grandchildren on their foreheads. For he knows, this is his last night. Never, to wake again.

wow....

i mean... jeez Gravey, wtf is wrong with you. i mean really? This is beautiful friggin' literature!

Makes me glad I'm young, but i have a feeling that when i grow old, i'm gonna remember this D:

This will be up on my page tomorrow.

Thanks

Ok Thumper...

I think that kick, was specially made to destroy all subwoofers that anyone ever accidentally plays this on. I know I was worried about crack my glass on my apartment. :-P

It's pretty loud in the beginning. You should really think about fixing that. Just way to in your face.

I like when the melody, if that is what it is, comes in. But the kick completely goes away. It shouldn't. There needs to be some sort of percussion going, and the kick should be doing something.

I love the buildup to the release at 1:53. That effect at 1:51 is amazing bud. Very very VERY cool. And the melody continues right along, which normally it would need a change. But it is so...Catchy...That I like it going along the way it is.

The little extras in the background are really cool, and you almost have to strain to hear them at times. I like that. I also like how things get louder and softer throughout the song. Nice dynamic range. Although, it is pretty elementary in the way you did it. It is still nice to see you use dynamics of some sort.

I really think this could be expanded on in so many ways. You could add new instruments, new melody lines and harmonies, and even new/more effects. Also, some more percussion would be nice. It doesn't have to be anything extravagant. But the kick alone just isn't quite enough to do it for me.

I'm not a fan of trance at all. But I'm trying to be objective in this review. Soooo...

4/5 and 7/10 overall. A good start, but definitely still more work to do.

-Gravey-

Coda9 responds:

i actually didnt notice the kick, i gots one huge ass subwoffer and dont notice it
ah well sorry for killing your speakers lawl. Ill change that sometime
i never really thought of many more meloidies but i could probally think of something to put in there. I paid really close attention to the effects and ambiance so it would sound like teh sex. more prucussion would be a bit trickky cause i dont have many samples lol but i could manage something mabey i could through in a snare like it my cream remix lmao.
thanks for the review!

LAWL!!!!!

First off, eye simply hart jew for your P.S. there. Seriously man, I started laughing so hard I almost fell off my chair. Thanks for showin' the love bud. X-D

Now, onto the song. One simple comment would summon up how I feel about this song entirely. And that comment would be, dissonance is epic win. Yes, dissonance is epic win.

Seriously bud, how is it you pull this off over and over again. The stuff you write has this stamp on it that basically says, "I'm TestSubjectA, and I write better music than you. Deal with it."

Everything you write has this great aura to it as well. It is something I've come to expect from certain people. BlackAttackBitch, PenguinSam, gOrc, and Boux are all composers that really have something in their music that is more than just notes and effects. And you are right in that category with them.

I love the melodies, the harmonies, the percussion, the effects, distortions, pannings, everything man. I simply love everything.

This has so many aspects of other songs that you've written as well. I hear stuff from Force, Clocks, Vaudeville, and even Red Ocean. This really sums up so many different styles and ideas you had in previous song.

I love the story behind this piece as well. It isn't quite as detailed as what I have done in the past, but it does not need to be. In fact, it is probably better that it isn't. Makes me put on my thinking cap and really pay attention to the song, and the visualizations that come to me on my own.

Is there anything left to say? I really don't think so. This has your markings and fingerprints all over it. And it sound just fantastic!

5/5 and 10/10 overall.

This has been favorited!

-Gravey-

Aeris responds:

GOD DAMMIT YOU ALMOST MADE ME SPIT MY SODA OUT

haha i love your "I'm TestSubjectA, and I write better music than you. Deal with it." comment! xD
It's not so much "I write better music than you" as much as "It's my music, deal with it" :P

I for sure got my stamp C: It's what I do!

I tried to keep the story simple for visualization purposes, I want you to make your "giant Titan" and such.

Thanks for the detailed review, as always! haha

This Is Cool...

I've listened to it about 5 times through now. And I really like how smooth the atmosphere is. It is so warm and full, and just glides along wonderfully. This is especially true in the beginning.

Now, I do not like the effect that comes in at 2:48. I like the effect itself, just not on the whole song. On a single instrument it would be cool. But it just ruins the mood when it cuts out the entire song like that.

The percussion is pretty decent. Nothing to complain about there.

Overall, I like this a lot. I can't wait for the final version.

4/5 and 8/10 overall

nightsurfermusic responds:

Yeah, the volume cut-outs on the entire mix were just a little test.

Thanks for the review! :)

Cool...

For trance, this isn't bad at all. I actually enjoyed it, oddly enough. And if you know how I feel about the trance genre, the fact I simply don't hate this is a huge compliment. ;-)

You have some very cool sounds going on in this bud. There really doesn't seem to be a whole lot in the effects department, at least nothing that is over the top. That is probably why I like this.

It actually has some harmony to go along with the melody lines. Which is almost never present in trance music. For once a trance song with a little musical integrity. This makes me smile sir. :-)

There isn't much else to say really. Just a great and fun atmosphere, with nifty melody lines and tasteful harmonies. Great work here.

5/5 and 10/10 overall. Great job!

-Gravey-

OPQC responds:

yea, i have looked for the harmonics on this song. great they were nice ones :)
i didn't use effects, because it would sound very odd. without effects on this song, it's more compliment... as you see :)
thanks for the great review again bud!

YAY!!!!

I'm Irish! I LOVE potatos! And this makes me want to dance. Gee, this might just turn out to be quite the favorable review.

You captured the essence of Celtic folk music very well here sir. The only time I think it is a little short on quality, is the section beginning at 1:09. It is far to see through there. Maybe think of adding something a little dynamic there.

But everything else is superb! The instruments were well chosen, and you wrote perfectly to create that Irish jig feel. God dude, you have no idea how happy this song makes me feel. :-D

The instrumentation is perfect, the atmosphere is perfect, and it fits the purpose you have for this song pretty well.

5/5 and 10/10 overall. I know I said that one section could use some work. But really man, this is the first Celtic folk song I've ever heard on Newgrounds. So it gets mad props from me!

This has been favorited! And someone finally knocked gOrc's song, "Into The Cold," off my favorite song on Newgrounds slot. Yes, this really makes me smile in every way possible!

-Gravey-

Aeris responds:

huzzah! i have beaten the infamous "Into the Cold!" lol

I added a little timpani thing going on at that part you wanted the dynamics, so perhaps that'll help, I tried doing a crash thing, but it didn't work correctly.

New version is up, thanks for quite the ego-boosting review xD
