Haha it was fun :D
But nothing beats the original :P
thanks for letting me do naughty things to it.
ROFL!!!
I love how you said, (scoffs at own stupidity.) Made me laugh sir.
As for the song, it alright. I don't listen to much Meshuggah. I think Mnemic does a way better job at mass syncopation. But that is a topic for another day.
So I can't really say if I think it sounds much like Meshuggah, cause I really don't know. As the song goes though, I like it. The syncopation is what I'm guessing you took as influence from Meshuggah on this song.
I think it is a little too repetitive. Some of the riffs are syncopated, but they tend to repeat themselves every 2 bars. I do know that the syncopation style used by both Meshuggah and Mnemic does not repeat so quickly. And therefore is much harder to follow. Because if you extend the riffs out longer, then the syncopation has the possibility of becoming beyond complicated.
I am not fond of the one crash or high hat it is you hit on the downbeat around the 2:00 mark. Really odd sound. The guitar sounds great as far as the distortion goes. I like it a lot.
So I say good job, but extend the riffs. That should help you get a more "Meshuggah-ish" sound. Definitely on the right track though.
4/5 and 8/10 overall.
-Gravey-
i do try.
well, everybody has an opinion.
it is.
thx good advice, this IS my first whack at such metal.
yeah. GarageBand cymbals just aint that great.
i say, what what.
thanks.
i see your name.
Stupid Moms!!!
I tell ya, they get in the way of everything anymore. :-P
Interesting little tune here. You are right in the fact that it takes a while to get going. But once it does it has a real nice sound to it. That pad/sweep that comes in around the 2:25 mark is a cool sound. Very typical of trance/techno music.
I'm not sure what I think of the kick. Kinda annoying after a while. I really can't stand those high end techno kicks. Drive me insane, but they are pretty typical in this style of music. The rest of the percussion stuff is pretty good. Although a little quiet in the mix for my taste. For the most part anyways.
I like the ending. Not really anything special, but fitting for the song.
Overall pretty good. Too bad you couldn't keep working on it, cause I think it could have turned out really well if you had more time to work on it.
4/5 and 8/10 overall, cause it is pretty good, but the intro is sooooooooo looooooooong. You should have tightened that section up a bit.
-Gravey-
Ya. But you know whats wierd? The intro was gonna be an entirely different song lol. Also, I wanted to make this song without any percussion but ppl tend to get pissy if they dont have their bass :P. This is a song that I hope to remake once I get the full version of FL Studio. And as always, thanks for takin the time to review my song :)
Nifty...
I like it. Simple and straightforward. I kinda think it would go well in a side scrolling space shooter, but that is just me. I could kill me some alien baddies to this! :-D
I do think you could maybe make this closer to a minute long, and vary it slightly. Cause if this repeated every 0:30 seconds in a video game, it would grow old quickly. Maybe you could add some strings to it as well. Just a thought.
4/5 and 9/10 overall, because it is almost there. But even for a loop I find it a bit short. I think loops should be about a minute long. But then again, just my opinion, take it or leave it as you will. :-)
-Gravey-
Nifty...
I really like the strings in the intro. Cool sound there man. You really nailed the intro well.
Like the buildup to the near 0:50 mark, then it dies down a bit. Cool way to work that little transition. I like the section starting around the 1:10 mark, but I think you need to add something there to give it some flavor.
Yet again, a nice buildup to the 1:30-ish mark. And I like that section as it is perfectly. And the transition out of it was clean and smooth. And they a buildup to a grander string sound after all that, which is very pleasing to the ears.
Something to think about would be to add a few more sounds throughout the song. Nothing to extreme, but something to give it a little color. Because it has great horizontal depth. But is lacking a bit in vertical depth. A few more instruments throughout the song would do wonders for that.
I'm not crazy about how it loops. If it is a loop then fine, but songs really should have endings. And this is pretty long for a typical loop. And submitted it as a song, not a loop. So you should come up with a proper ending for the piece. All said though, this is a nicely constructed piece. 4/5 and 8/10 overall, because it is good. But not great yet. I think it has a little work still to be done.
Great job!
-Gravey-
P.S. - If you change this later and resubmit it, let me know. I wanna hear what you changed in it. :-)
thanks for the in depth review man. Maybe this weekend, ill go back and add some things to it. And i always seem to have troubles with my endings so they usually turn into the loop kind so i need to work on that XD.
thanks again for the rate and review
-Adamaja456
Hmmm...
The intro is a bit long. Really got a bit boring by the time the melody came in. I really don't like the first melodic line that came in. Not so much musically, but the actual sound you used. Kinda odd, but that is only my opinion. Take it or leave it as you will.
There needs to be a bit of change. Really, this was the same thing over and over, and over, and over....and over some more. There needs to be something that changes throughout the track.
I think this would be great for a bridge moment in a song. But as for three and a half minutes of it, wow. Too much. lol But you are on the right track. Keep working, and it could turn into a nice little ambient sound.
2/5 and 4/10 overall. Good luck on your future projects.
-Gravey-
Alrighty-Then...
First off I have a question. Are the guitars real? Or generated? Because they don't sound very real. And that is a problem. I mean, if they aren't real, I won't hold that against you. Cause not everyone has the ability to record themselves playing. But if they are real, then you need to work on their sound a bit.
Now as for the song as a whole, I like it...To an extent. It is very in your face at times, and has nifty beats. Very electro/industrial kind of metal sound. Your kick is fucking awesome, I simply love that sound. But I do think you could expand on the drums a bit. Maybe add some cymbal stuff, because it doesn't sound like there is any.
As for the structure of the song, I really don't know what to say. It is kinda difficult to follow the structure because it doesn't vary much. Now I don't mean it doesn't vary in instruments and all. But rather musically. Because it seems like you switch off from one drum rhythm to another without any rhyme or reason. And like I said before, the guitars are rough. Extremely hard to follow them at all.
But i LOVE the overall wound you got as a whole. So I'ma give you a 4/5 and 7/10 overall. As weird and eccentric as this is, I really like it a lot. But it could use a lot of work. If you do any more work in the future let me know. I would like to hear the changes you made.
-Gravey-
P.S. - This has been favorited. :-)
Thanks for the nice review, and to answer your first question, Yes the guitar is fake. And thanks you very much for helping me out I really appreciate it and these types of reviews encourage me to keep going,
Thanks much,
-Liam
YES!!!
Those are the most epic midi tom hits EVER in the intro!!!! They sound like you are bouncing alien giblets off a spacecraft going thrice the speed of sound!!! EPIC TOM SOUNDS!!!!
As always, cool riffs and nifty drum beats. I'm feeling some serious Contra action with this song for some reason. But that is just me!
For midi this shit is epic. I can really hear how this would translate to a metal band well. It would be epic as fuck.
5/5 and 10/10, this is my favorite song of yours I've heard by far.
-Gravey-
Heh...
I love how everyone wants to help you get better midi. When all these are for is to get your thoughts and ideas down. that way when you go to record them you don't forget anything.
Yea, Garageband has decent midi, but it only runs on Macs. And Macs are shit, as you agree with me on. As for FL Studio, don't bother. Waste of time, cause the guitar shit on there doesn't sound real at all either. I think my song Impressionable proves that. (Although I think it would be badass if I ever got it recorded for real)
As for midi, I love this shit man. Geeks me out every time I listen to your midi stuff, cause it all belongs on some epic 8-bit rpg Nintendo game. And this song is no different.
Great stuff man. 5/5 and 9/10 overall.
-Gravey-
P.S. - You are still, and always will be my sweet widdle wuv shnookums!!! X-D I bet THAT turns some heads here for other Newgrounders!
LOL garvey you are killing me sir with all your comments but ya i love my midis josh my guitar player added shit to my midi's and wrote some of his own
Epicness...
As always, simply epic!
5/5 and 9/10, cause you are the one who puts epic in epicness!
