Ok Thumper...

I think that kick, was specially made to destroy all subwoofers that anyone ever accidentally plays this on. I know I was worried about crack my glass on my apartment. :-P

It's pretty loud in the beginning. You should really think about fixing that. Just way to in your face.

I like when the melody, if that is what it is, comes in. But the kick completely goes away. It shouldn't. There needs to be some sort of percussion going, and the kick should be doing something.

I love the buildup to the release at 1:53. That effect at 1:51 is amazing bud. Very very VERY cool. And the melody continues right along, which normally it would need a change. But it is so...Catchy...That I like it going along the way it is.

The little extras in the background are really cool, and you almost have to strain to hear them at times. I like that. I also like how things get louder and softer throughout the song. Nice dynamic range. Although, it is pretty elementary in the way you did it. It is still nice to see you use dynamics of some sort.

I really think this could be expanded on in so many ways. You could add new instruments, new melody lines and harmonies, and even new/more effects. Also, some more percussion would be nice. It doesn't have to be anything extravagant. But the kick alone just isn't quite enough to do it for me.

I'm not a fan of trance at all. But I'm trying to be objective in this review. Soooo...

4/5 and 7/10 overall. A good start, but definitely still more work to do.

ah well sorry for killing your speakers lawl. Ill change that sometime
i never really thought of many more meloidies but i could probally think of something to put in there. I paid really close attention to the effects and ambiance so it would sound like teh sex. more prucussion would be a bit trickky cause i dont have many samples lol but i could manage something mabey i could through in a snare like it my cream remix lmao.
thanks for the review!

LAWL!!!!!

First off, eye simply hart jew for your P.S. there. Seriously man, I started laughing so hard I almost fell off my chair. Thanks for showin' the love bud. X-D

Now, onto the song. One simple comment would summon up how I feel about this song entirely. And that comment would be, dissonance is epic win. Yes, dissonance is epic win.

Seriously bud, how is it you pull this off over and over again. The stuff you write has this stamp on it that basically says, "I'm TestSubjectA, and I write better music than you. Deal with it."

Everything you write has this great aura to it as well. It is something I've come to expect from certain people. BlackAttackBitch, PenguinSam, gOrc, and Boux are all composers that really have something in their music that is more than just notes and effects. And you are right in that category with them.

I love the melodies, the harmonies, the percussion, the effects, distortions, pannings, everything man. I simply love everything.

This has so many aspects of other songs that you've written as well. I hear stuff from Force, Clocks, Vaudeville, and even Red Ocean. This really sums up so many different styles and ideas you had in previous song.

I love the story behind this piece as well. It isn't quite as detailed as what I have done in the past, but it does not need to be. In fact, it is probably better that it isn't. Makes me put on my thinking cap and really pay attention to the song, and the visualizations that come to me on my own.

Is there anything left to say? I really don't think so. This has your markings and fingerprints all over it. And it sound just fantastic!

5/5 and 10/10 overall.

This has been favorited!

Aeris responds:

GOD DAMMIT YOU ALMOST MADE ME SPIT MY SODA OUT

haha i love your "I'm TestSubjectA, and I write better music than you. Deal with it." comment! xD
It's not so much "I write better music than you" as much as "It's my music, deal with it" :P

I for sure got my stamp C: It's what I do!

I tried to keep the story simple for visualization purposes, I want you to make your "giant Titan" and such.

Thanks for the detailed review, as always! haha

This Is Cool...

I've listened to it about 5 times through now. And I really like how smooth the atmosphere is. It is so warm and full, and just glides along wonderfully. This is especially true in the beginning.

Now, I do not like the effect that comes in at 2:48. I like the effect itself, just not on the whole song. On a single instrument it would be cool. But it just ruins the mood when it cuts out the entire song like that.

The percussion is pretty decent. Nothing to complain about there.

Overall, I like this a lot. I can't wait for the final version.

4/5 and 8/10 overall

nightsurfermusic responds:

Yeah, the volume cut-outs on the entire mix were just a little test.

Thanks for the review! :)

Interesting...

I like it. It has a very nice flow throughout the entire song.

I don't really know what to say, trance isn't a genre I'm fond of. But this wasn't that bad.

4/5 and 8/10 overall.

-Gravey-

Cool...

For trance, this isn't bad at all. I actually enjoyed it, oddly enough. And if you know how I feel about the trance genre, the fact I simply don't hate this is a huge compliment. ;-)

You have some very cool sounds going on in this bud. There really doesn't seem to be a whole lot in the effects department, at least nothing that is over the top. That is probably why I like this.

It actually has some harmony to go along with the melody lines. Which is almost never present in trance music. For once a trance song with a little musical integrity. This makes me smile sir. :-)

There isn't much else to say really. Just a great and fun atmosphere, with nifty melody lines and tasteful harmonies. Great work here.

5/5 and 10/10 overall. Great job!

-Gravey-

OPQC responds:

yea, i have looked for the harmonics on this song. great they were nice ones :)
i didn't use effects, because it would sound very odd. without effects on this song, it's more compliment... as you see :)
thanks for the great review again bud!

YAY!!!!

I'm Irish! I LOVE potatos! And this makes me want to dance. Gee, this might just turn out to be quite the favorable review.

You captured the essence of Celtic folk music very well here sir. The only time I think it is a little short on quality, is the section beginning at 1:09. It is far to see through there. Maybe think of adding something a little dynamic there.

But everything else is superb! The instruments were well chosen, and you wrote perfectly to create that Irish jig feel. God dude, you have no idea how happy this song makes me feel. :-D

The instrumentation is perfect, the atmosphere is perfect, and it fits the purpose you have for this song pretty well.

5/5 and 10/10 overall. I know I said that one section could use some work. But really man, this is the first Celtic folk song I've ever heard on Newgrounds. So it gets mad props from me!

This has been favorited! And someone finally knocked gOrc's song, "Into The Cold," off my favorite song on Newgrounds slot. Yes, this really makes me smile in every way possible!

-Gravey-

Aeris responds:

huzzah! i have beaten the infamous "Into the Cold!" lol

I added a little timpani thing going on at that part you wanted the dynamics, so perhaps that'll help, I tried doing a crash thing, but it didn't work correctly.

New version is up, thanks for quite the ego-boosting review xD

-Aeris

Me Likey...

Very in your face, punch your gut, kick in the balls sort of tune. Oh, and did I mention the fact that you will be dancing your little ass off the entire time that is happening to you? Yea, this is that cool.

I love the lead sound at 1:00. That is simply cool as it gets man. It is so nifty and unique, it creates a cool atmosphere as well.

I love the overall feel you got with this song. This is as fun as a sandbox full of red ants in which your most hated enemy is sitting in. Oh yea, it has an almost biting quality to it. Very unique.

I like this a LOT!

5/5 and 10/10 overall.

This has been favorited!

OPQC responds:

oh god, fav'd? yayz :D
i see you make always those epic reviews... they're really nice to read.
hehe, your imagination get's somewhole funny too... :D
thanks for the review!

First Off...

I'm BEYOND humbled by the fact that you even think to mention me in your comments section. It is truly an honor my friend to be in that list with so many wonderful artists.

Now, onto the music. Sir, I don't even know what to say. The overall sound you get when writing is simply superb. I'm always amazed by the sheer perfection of the atmosphere you are able to create. It is so intense, yet majestic, I can not tell you how amazing it is in every aspect. Simply put, the atmosphere you create is always perfect.

The instruments themselves seem to always be of professional quality. I'm not sure how you do it bud. In all honesty, I use some of the same stuff as you do, and I do not even come close to this level. Once I get my EastWest gear that will obviously change, but for now, I'm am humbled to the lowest point by your magnificent sounds.

And I haven't even begun talking about the composition itself. So much tension and release throughout the entire piece. Chills, I got chills all over my body during the section that begins right before the 3:30 mark. The buildup and release is simply perfect, in the very sense of the word, perfect.

To sit here and say "The trumpets were written well, and the flutes were amazing," would be a disservice to you. So I will not go there. In fact, all I will say is that the balance this piece has is simply superb. The balance between the horns, woodwinds, percussion, everything, is spot on in every way. I'm not sure what else to say really.

By far, this is THE BEST PIECE I have ever heard on Newgrounds. And all due respect to my favorite artist gOrc, because he writes some amazing stuff. But this is on another level entirely.

5/5 and 10/10 overall.

This has been favorited!

blackattackbitch responds:

Best piece on Newgrounds? Wow, I honestly don't know what to say, I'm so grateful....

And I mentioned you because you're a great artist, your compositions are amazing.

About the quality, well, usually I leave the samples raw without any EQing unless they really need it. I used EQ in this song because I wanted to achieve the next level of professional sound. I would still suggest you get EastWest, as they just have a simply amazing sound.

It might just be the reverb creating that sound though, I'm not sure, I do know that I often combine soundfonts to achieve multiple articulations of the same instrument though.

I'm extremely appreciative of this review, I honestly don't know what to say, all I can say is that, to steal a line from Maestro again, anyone can do this, really :)

And I know that you can definitely do this, trust me. Your subs are great!

SIR!

Why did you not tell me this was finished?

As for the song, you took quite a different approach with it. I LOVE the marima-ish instrument that comes in around the 1:00 mark. VERY VERY VERY cool my friend.

The reverb is sooooooooooooooooooooo thick in this song. It creates a very dreamy atmosphere. A sleepy dreamy atmosphere too. Like you are walking in a dream, but the air is thick like water. So everything you do is in slow motion.

Me likes the tinkle at the end. ;-)

Maybe something with a little bit of a low end would do it some good. But for the overall effect you were going for, I think this works nicely.

5/5 and 9/10 overall. Just not quite worth a 10/10, even though it is based around one of my demos. ;-) Nice work bud, this makes me smile.

This has been favorited! (Big surprise right?!)

Theledge93 responds:

In the beginning, i tried to show the original song. then i faded in to mine. I tried to keep your vision intact while adding mine to accentuate it.

Not Bad...

Not really something I would normally get into, but not bad all the same.

I think there could be a little harmonic integrity added somewhere. It really sounds like it is just a melody and effects. With a somewhat anemic bass-line.

I like the bass you are using. It has a very rich and thick sound. But I think you could do a little more with it in this song. It seems to be following the tonic of the chord throughout the entire song. I just suggest giving it a little more freedom in it's movement is all. But this is just my personal opinion. Take it or leave it as you will.

I think the effects really made this a fun little tune. Like I said, there is not any real harmonic value in this song. But for what you are going for, the effects seem to add all the life it really needs.

Very nice work here bud.

5/5 and 9/10 overall.
